All About Scott Phillips

I have a confession to make. I didn't go to radio school. I know you're shocked. I actually went to Olds College and studied agriculture. Back in the 80's my father bought a half section of land along the Red Deer river by Penhold. Dad wanted to build his dream house and start a farm. My father ran a chain of radio and TV stations throughout Alberta but he always dreamed of working the land. When I graduated from high school I didn't really have a clear direction in my life, so I hitched my wagon to dad's dream. We farmed together for a half a dozen years. One year after harvest we were sitting around the dinner table and my father asked me what I wanted to do that winter. I told him that I might like to work at the radio station in Red Deer. He looked surprised, but my mother laughed and said, " He's been telling you that for years."    I started working all nights in Red Deer. However, the station wasn't that successful and my father ended up selling it after I'd only worked there for a year. He told me that night over dinner that the station had been sold. I was devestated because I'd fallen in love with my second career. Dad knew that, so he offered me a job at a station in Grande Prairie. He said don't worry about the farm, he'd manage. I took my new bride and chased my dreams up to northern Alberta. I've been at Country 105 now for 17 years. I can't believe I make my living this way. I love my job and I love country music. Radio is truly the job that changed my life.
